The Boy Who Fell into a Book

By Alan Auckbourn for Lamb's Players, The Playhouse on Plaza, National City (San Diego), CA. Designed Fall 2003.

Unfortunately, due to camera malfunctions, I have only the one picture from this show and it doesn't really show the set well. However, it was a fun show to design as it's the only one I've done that was geared for children. It was also very challenging as it was very fast paced and required us to go "through" many different books and their settings.

Twilight of the Golds

By Jonathan Tolin, for Idaho State University's Powell Little Theatre. Designed Fall 2002. This was my first ever realized set design.

Through design meeting discussions the director and I determined that we would like to have this NYC apartment reflect both the feeling of the play and of the 2 characters that live here, hence the grey set with cold, hard surfaces. It also made it be able to reflect the operatic lighting the script calls for.
As a side note, I also did the majority of the painting on this set, the marbling being a process I developed on my own, based on two other marbling techniques.

Brownstone

Written by Peter Larson and Josh Rubins, designed for San Diego State University's Experimental Theatre. Designed Fall 2004.
This was my first design for SDSU as a grad student, my first ever realized design of a musical. The script called for 4 apartments in a brownstone building in New York City, the mail box area, the hallway, the front stoop, the sidewalk in front of the building and the garbage well area. Added to this we needed a space for the small orchestra and a place for our 3 person chorus to retire while remaining on stage. The theatre space is flexible, I opted for a 3/4 thrust, my only requirements being the minumum number of seats I had to fit into the audience.

Halloween

I am not a costume designer, but I do enjoy making costumes for my family for Halloween. Being as I've been involved in theatre in some capacity or another my entire life, when it comes to making costumes, I don't know know how to go by half measures. This year my husband and 2 little boys (aged 1 and 3) were the Three Musketeers.
Except for the size (obviously) all of the costumes are identical.

I made this hat, luckily my husband already owned a cavalier hat so I didn't have to make one for him.

To Save Money

As I am currently a stay-at-home mom I decided that the money I've been spending every month for the website I was creating was money I could be spending elsewhere. Instead I've decided to start this blog and see how well I can get it set up to show my portfolio to good advantage while saving money. Please be patient with me as I figure out how to get this set up in such a way as I am pleased with it.
